Daily Dose: Fun Fact
Not knowing why today is a holiday, I did some googling, and found out that the Toronto city council thought we could use another “day of relaxation” in the summer. This was in the late 1800’s, and it resulted in today’s holiday. However, they named it Simcoe day after John Simcoe, who founded what is now the City of Toronto, and supported legislation to ban slavery, which stood as an example for the entire country. Simcoe’s decisions have helped shape Canada into what it is today.
Enjoy your day off!
