Daily Dose: The Kollaboration Movement

“It is because the human spirit knows, deep down, that all lives intersect. That death doesn’t just take someone, it misses someone else, and in the small distance between being taken and being missed, lives are changed.” – Mitch Album, The Five People You Meet In Heaven

“We can spend our lives letting the world tell us who we are. Sane or insane. Saints or sex addicts. Heroes or victims. Letting history tell us how good or bad we are. Letting our past decide our future. Or we can decide for ourselves. And maybe it’s our job to invent something better.” – Chuck Palahniuk, Choke

At first glance, these two quotes seem entirely unrelated to Kollaboration. But I feel that these two quotes are perfect descriptions of our family and what we stand for. The last few months, we’ve been getting to know all our staff and volunteers, and I’ve seen and experienced firsthand that lives and relationships have been changed by and within our organization. And despite all the stereotypes associated with Asian Pacific Islanders, we are at the forefront of this movement – deciding, and helping others decide, what exactly we want to do with our lives. That’s something to be extremely proud of.

To all the staff going on their retreat this weekend, have a wonderful time!
